Abstract
There is an oft-quoted principle that members of the medical professions and their families make for challenging patients. Whether this is because they present with unusual conditions or because they indulge in a bit of self-diagnosis and possibly self-treatment is unknown. The two short case reports from local general practitioners do nothing to dispel what may be an urban myth, but they leave the reader with the uncomfortable feeling that when dealing with the family of a medical colleague, things may be more complicated than they appear at first sight!
